Building an outdoor routine for kids

A simple routine makes protection a habit instead of a battle. Apply sunscreen about 15 minutes before heading outside, and reapply at least every 2 hours, after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating, and right after towel drying. If you are using bug repellent too, put sunscreen on first, let it absorb, then apply a light mist of your bug repellent. For young children, spray repellent onto your own hands and then rub it onto their skin, keeping it away from their eyes, mouth, and hands. Hats, lightweight long sleeves, and shade during midday hours add an extra layer of protection.
